Bad news guys. I will have to blog on the Lake Powell trip later...this takes first place right now. Peanut had her baby today, but it was still born. It was a Colt. He was full term, so he probably died quite recently. He was a beautiful colt though. Very pretty markings. He was darker than Peanut with a black and white tail and white stocking feet. We called the Vet out and he said it was not a viable birth...which means, still birth. Dad and I went out there and bagged the baby up. By the time we were done, Jeff was there and he took him. Peanut was VERY upset when dad took the baby out of her stable. She whinied and cried and ran around...very upset little mamma. It broke my heart. Peanut also has other problems though. When we bought her we were told that she was 6 years old. We did not get papers on her though as she was not registered. The doctor told us she is well over 20. She is currently in liver failure due to the pregnancy. The doctor told us that it is possible that now that she is no longer pregnant her liver may rebound and reverse the failure...but it is hard to say. The next two weeks will be critical for her. So if you pray for animals...pray for her. Here are some pictures...
Jeff was so concerned about horsey depression that he felt like she needed a friend...so he went straight to Craigslist again and when I got home from Curves tonight, we were off to Dunbar, NE...about 40 miles south of here. She was a really nice lady that gave us a lot of very good and useful information regarding the raising of Miniatures. Remember, I had horses...but they were big horses...Miniatures are a different story...I am not used to those...so there is a lot that I have to learn. She had quite a few for sale. One of the colts came up and playfully bit Jake in the tushie. Jeff decided then and there that he wanted that colt! The Colt is 2 months old. He is black/grey. He is starting to lose his downy baby hair so he looks a bit raggity in the picture...but he is really cute and has a great personality. His name is Knight Rider.
Another horse? You say...oh...just wait. There was another one there that looked VERY much like Peanut. She is 8 years old....her name is Blondie and has as sweet of a disposition as Peanut does. She is very possibly pregnant...but just pregnant. She won't be due until April/May. Her and Knight Rider both come with papers...so they are registered horses...no fudging of ages...they are "in the system" so to speak. So guess what? Yup....we got her too....here are her pictures....
Jeff had no problem getting Blondie in the trailer....Knight Rider was another stoy. How many adults does it take to get a 2 month old Colt into a trailer? Here's your answer...
